How to Seal Chalkboard Art

A few months ago I made these chalkboard toy boxes for the littles.  I fully expected the lettering to dissappear moments after taking this picture, but surprisingly they have stayed pretty much in tact.  So much so that I have grown quite fond of them & wanted them to be permanent.  Well who knew... all I needed was a can of hairspray!  Just a quick few sprays & it is set.  No more smudges.  Just be prepared for the following...

  • Your chalk design will fade when wet, but will come back vibrant once dry.
  • Your house will smell like hairspray.  (I hate hairspray!  I think I was traumatized as a child... So much so that I have had the same can of hairspray since I met my husband 10 years ago.  That is how often I use it.)

    1. Thanks JoAnna! I actually did it. It was originally a burgundy lamp that I painted white & I free handed the gold polka dots with a gold leaf pen.
